Opposition promise 45-minute train to Melbourne

Opposition promise 45-minute train to Melbourne

Opposition leader Matthew Guy has pledged to build a $19 billion high-speed regional rail link if his party wins the November election.

This promise is in line with the recent Infrastructure Australia report, which identified the Ballarat Rail Line upgrade as a priority project for the country.

If constructed, the shortest trip from Ballarat to Melbourne would last just 45 minutes. Currently, the shortest trip by train lasts more than an hour.

Mr. Guy has yet to reveal how he intends to fund the project and admitted that a business plan is yet to be carried out to determine its viability.
